The University of Gloucestershire has just launched a group called “Green Gym”, which aims to improve both campus biodiversity and the fitness of the participants. Four second year Biosciences students, Alicia Northcott, Jess Dumoulin, Chloe Dix and Anam Binttariq have been helping out.
The first project is clearing out an allotment near Park Campus. It is very overgrown so there is a lot of work to be done but the aim is to get it cleared so flower, fruit and vegetables can be planted. Plans are also afoot to work with nature by setting up a compost bin, bird and bat boxes, solitary bee houses, hedgehog houses and bird tables and baths. The afternoon sessions take place 1-3pm on a Wednesday twice a month. If anyone wants to get involved contact Alicia on firstname.lastname@example.org
